The children at Macdonough School are expected to behave according to their school’s behavior acronym of S.U.R.F.S. which stands for:
S-Self Responsibility
U-Understanding
R-Respect
F-Fairness
S-Safety
We have drawn parallels with these character traits to our YMCA Kids’ Korner pillars of Good Character of:
Caring
Honesty
Respect
Responsibility
If children in our program go above and beyond in any of these areas, they can be rewarded in a variety of ways (some of which you may have read in previous blog posts). Another way we recognize the efforts of the children is through our InCENTives Program. Monetary values have been assigned to the different character traits. If a child is a shining star, they can add that amount of money to our Penny Pot, which is visible at the Parent Sign Out Area.
Coincidentally enough, if you want to read more about the YMCA pillars, you can just look on the blue PILLAR in the cafeteria for this InCENTives Chart. If the children raise varying amounts of money, they are rewarded with something fun. Ask your child if they have ever contributed to this InCENTives FUN-d.
