MATH n’ MUNCH: AB Patterns and Irresistible Indian Corn!

On our latest Math Monday, the Kindergarten and 1st graders learned about AB Patterns.  We started the activity by making AB Pattern Place-mats to use for reference during the activity.

Then, using pretzel flips crackers as the corn shape, we covered one side of each pretzel flip cracker with a layer of chocolate frosting. Then we constructed AB patterns using Mini M&Ms as the kernels.

The Indian Corn husks were made using Fruit by the Foot, torn to look like leaves.

Chromatography Critters

Filed under: Site Happenings — KK @ MacD @ 8:39 pm

On our Wacky Tacky Fun Friday we made some little critters using

Color Chromatography.

First we colored the end of a paper towel black to see what would happen if we soaked it in water.  This was the result:

Next we used water-based markers on a coffee filter; making dots of different colors.  Then we used pipettes to drop water on each color.  The paper filtered out the colors while it absorbed the water resulting in the separation of the colors into their base colors.  This made our filters appear tie dyed.

When we were finished separating colors, we took home the materials to turn our Chromatography experiment into a

Chromatography Critter!

More KidzLit Fun with Miss Morello!

Filed under: Site Happenings — KK @ MacD @ 8:23 pm

This past Thursday, Miss Morello shared a few Literary Fall-Time Favorites.  Following the stories, the children went outside with Miss Morello for a traditional Fall-Time Fun-Time: Making a Leaf-Scarecrow.

The completed Scarecrow was affectionately named Bob and posed for several wacky pictures (all of which are not featured here…but here are a select few gems).

Later, we found Bob inside the school re-enacting his favorite Beyonce video because his head fell off…”Uh oh oh, Uh oh oh oh oh.”
